He was born on September 8, 1921 in Petrograd. In 1939 he graduated from the school No. 1 of the Dzerzhinsky district of Leningrad with a silver medal. From May 1937 he was in the ranks of the Komsomol, from the moment of joining he conducted public work as an agitator (агитатор). His father was a pharmacy employee since 1902, had a higher pharmaceutical education, his mother was a housewife.
In July 1939 Ilya Naumovich entered the Power Engineering Faculty of LII (Specialty: cars and tractors). In February 1940, he left college to join the army. The last place of service is 281 rifle division (anti-aircraft artillery). Ilya Naumovich Schneerson died of wounds in January 1942 in the Hospital 318. He was buried in the settlement No. 8 of the Mginsky district of the Leningrad region.
